This course will focus on the pre-modern-post-modern forms and transformation of the phenomenon, with the definition of the concept of culture. The concept of culture will be schematized in the light of anthropological, linguistic, communicative, mediating explanations and approaches; however, the focal point of the course will be the transformation of the phenomenon in the post-capitalist era. As a superstructure institution, the function that culture inherits as one of the tissues of the modern society will be examined from a critical perspective in terms of the communication sciences from the early modern period to the present time. The student who completes the course will be able to examine and discuss cultural phenomena and problems in a multi-layered, critical perspective.
Students will revise the concepts and theories in cultural studies in order to raise new contextual approaches to the issues of cultur. Considering the dynamic nature of culture, regarding to the national and global dimensions of it, they will focus on such aspects as technology, new forms of identity and spatial organizations. Foundational scholarly works will be scrutinized and applied to the cultural products of mass media.
