Our Mission: Internationally Competent Communication Specialists

Recent developments in new information and communication technologies have diminished physical distances among human beings and we are now in an era in which everybody is able to hear, see and share information and thoughts instantenously. We believe it is our mission to educate communication specialists competent to manage information and communications both nationally and internationally. It is our aim to cultivate our students’ analytical thinking skills, creativity and problem solving abilities. We aim to foster self confidence, ethical awareness, individual and social responsibilities in our students as we prepare them as world class citizens.

General Info: Who are We?

The Department of Public Relations and Publicity was established in 1996 with Prof. Dr. Ayseli Usluata as the founding chair. Today the Department continues to be top choice of students wanting to study public relations in Turkey.

With its faculty composed of nationally and internationally established scholars as well as notable figures from the PR Industry, our Department is currently home to more than 400 students. We continue our relationship with the PR industry through regular seminars and courses in which our students and professional practitioners come together. It is our belief that as a University it is our responsibility to be a good neighbor in our community. Our students undertake social responsibility projects and activities aimed at the Kayışdağı region to foster this relationship.

Increasing international competence and intercultural awareness among our students is vital for us. Our students take part in Erasmus and Exchange programs, and as a department we welcome many visiting international students as well as visiting international faculty each semester.

Our faculty has an active national and international research agenda. Scholars regularly publish and attend conferences. Our department is the publisher of the Global Media Journal Turkish Edition one of the 17 international editions of the Global Media Journal since 2010. The Journal is open access and currently is indexed by various national and international databases.

Why Public Relations? Why Yeditepe?

Public Relations is one of the main areas of study within the Communications discipline. It focuses on perceptions, attitudes and expectations within public opinion, and plans and performs activities accordingly. It creates and manages corporate identity and corporate image by developing in house communication practices. Public Relations is also about managing media relations in order to build and maintain corporate reputation as well as creating sponsorships and social responsibility projects. Adapting the corporate entity to the online environment and developing social media applications is a big part.

In today’s world, the need for people who can think critically and creatively, who are team players, who can develop strategies for both ordinary and crisis situations; who have face to face communication skills and who are able to use communication technologies effectively is increasing. Respectively, it is our mission here at Yeditepe to foster individuals who can solve problem through analytical thinking, who are productive, creative, self-confident, respectful to their environment and conscious of their social responsibilities. We are proud of our graduates who have raised our bar and are now employed nationally and internationally within the communication sector, at global and national companies, political institutions as well as within the bureaucracy and civil society organizations. We are looking forward to welcoming you to Yeditepe University and the Public Relations and Publicity Program.
