The M.A. Program in Political Economy is unique for students who would like to develop an understanding of economics different from that offered by mainstream analysis. In the tradition of classical political economy, the program is based on the idea that a good understanding of social problems is possible only if economics is combined with sociology, politics, history and philosophy. Hence, in addition to standard economics courses that can be found in any masters program in economics, students in the Political Economy Program also take courses that may not always be found in mainstream programs, like the history of economic thought, sociology and methodology of economics and economic development. They then specialize by choosing courses in income distribution, global warming, environmental problems, issues of gender, urban transformation and urbanization. The variety of courses, focusing on burning economic and social issues, will turn the Political Economy Program into a unique experience for the students.
