Course Description
This course is designed to teach engineering students how to achieve reliable, efficient, cost-effective products and services in diverse fields, such as communication and networks, process and manufacturing industries, command and control, software engineering, information systems, and defense systems acquisition and procurement.. The topics covered are: A Review of Systems Engineering (definitions, history, challenges); A Review of Methodological Frameworks and Systems Engineering Processes; Formulation of Issues; Analysis of Alternatives (An Overview); Interpretation of Alternative Courses of Action and Decision Making (An Overview); Systems Engineering and Systems Engineering Management; An Introduction to CORE (The Computer Aided Systems Engineering tool used for Model-Based Systems Engineering). The emphasis will be on the methodological issues rather than the tools.
