Master's Program in Theatre

The Thesis Master’s Program in Theatre Department is for two years. The aim of the Master’s program in Theatre Department is to have graduate- students of BA improve their creativity and intellectual capacity in the field of dramaturgy, playwrighting, staging and acting through academic researches, depending on critical viewpoints and analitical way of thinking.

Writing Exam: 2023 September 12th, 01:00 p.m.

Performance Exam: 2023 September 13th, 01:00 p.m.

 Application Requirements:

• To have a bachelor's degree from an institution or a university with national and international equivalence. YÖKDİL, YDS, EYDS 'exams are valid for five years and minimum 55 score is required. The TOEFL IBT exam is valid for two years and minimum 66 score is required. 

• ALES score is not required.

• Foreign Language (English) Information:

Those candidates who do not have any English language scores of the exams mentioned above should take the Proficiency Exam held by English Language Preparation School of Yeditepe University and get minimum 50 scores. If not, they should participate in the English Language Preparation Classes Programs of Yeditepe University.

• The graduate students of Yeditepe University who completed the English Language Preparation Classes Programs should have an official document that proves that they completed Level-B2 successfully. Or else, the ones in question should take the Proficiency Exam held by English Language Preparation School of Yeditepe University and get minimum 50 scores. If not, they should participate in the English Language Preparation Classes Programs of Yeditepe University.

1. To be successful in the Acceptance Exams applied by Theatre Department

                THE ACCEPTANCE EXAMS APPLIED BY THEATRE DEPARTMENT IS LIKE BELOW:

1- The Application File of the Candidate: 

The Application File of the candidate will be delivered to Theatre Department directly or mailed tothtr@yeditepe.edu.tr (If content of the Application File is not included, the applicant will not be able to attend the exam)

The content of the Application File must be like below :

• CV with photograph
• A Reference Letter from a Lecturer (Professor or Associate Professor) of the candidate’s BA-education period.
• 2 Video records and posters of the performances, stagings or the like in which the candidate participated in actively in production process.
• Maxium 500 words of an Intention Letter in which the candidate writes his/her intentions and expectations why he/she prefers the Master’s Program Thesis in Theatre Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Yeditepe University and how the academic works of the candidate will contribute to the academic field of theatre in general and to the research fields of Theatre Department.
• A Research Proposal that consists of a 5-10 pages of preparation work on which the candidate intends to make an academic research. (In the Research proposal is required: Title / The aim, the target and the frame of the research/ the method of the research/ Reference books)

The Writing Fonts of the Research Proposal and Intention Letter:

Times New Roman/ 12 punt/1,5 line spacing/justified both sides.

THE EXAM:

2- Academic Written Exam.

3- Acting Exam:

a) Candidates are expected to act  1 scene selected from the world or the Turkish theatre literature of classical tragedy or modern drama (maximum 5 minutes)

b) Candidates are expected to act  1 scene selected from the world or the Turkish theatre literature of classical comedy or modern comedy (maximum 5 minutes)

***The Acting Exam will be recorded during the exam.

4- Evaluation of the Application Files of the Candidate includes a short face to face conversation with the candidate.  

***The Evaluation of the Application Files will be recorded during the exam.

The registrations will be listed according to the total score of the candidate.

The program focuses on doing academic researches and interdisciplinary works in the field of theatre and supporting the theatre-life in theory and practice through them.

The distinctive feature of the Master’s Program in Theatre Department is its viewpoint for a better MA education and its aim to train creative and promising theatre people, playwrights, dramaturgs, directors, actors/actresses or the like who have a respective intellectual background, critical and academic way of thinking.
