The aim of the Philosophy Master's Programme is to enable students to specialise in one of the main disciplines of philosophy and to contribute to the Turkish philosophical language and to national and international philosophical studies. The department provides its MA students with the appropriate tools for research in the History of Philosophy and related fields in the context of ancient, classical and modern languages, as well as the opportunity to work in the intermediate area between Continental Philosophy and Analytic Philosophy, which guides contemporary philosophical debates.
In order to provide our graduate students with the best possible educational environment for their philosophical studies and research, we are working in cooperation with our university's Information Centre to provide all kinds of philosophical books (in their original languages and translations), journals and internet databases to be used in the research of our faculty members and students.
Philosophy at Yeditepe, a peer-reviewed joint book prepared by the faculty members of the department and listed in the International Philosophy Index (Philosopher's Index), is a work that our graduate students can also benefit from in terms of creating a communication opportunity between researchers working in this field.
The programme is open to all students who have completed their undergraduate degree in Philosophy or another discipline. Students who do not pass an internationally recognised proficiency exam (at least 66 points in the computer-assisted TOEFL or Yeditepe University English Proficiency Exam) are admitted to Yeditepe University English Preparatory School and receive English language education for 1-4 semesters depending on their level of success. Students with a bachelor's degree other than Philosophy are required to take undergraduate level Scientific Preparation courses for 2 semesters. This period is not deducted from the legal period for the Master's degree. In order to complete the programme, students are required to take a total of 21 credits of courses (the courses taken during the Scientific Preparation period are not included in this 21 credits), write a Master's Thesis in accordance with the requirements of the regulations and be successful in the thesis defence.
Each semester, students are required to take a total of four courses, two elective courses from at least one of the following groups: Metaphysics/Epistemology/History of Philosophy; Logic/Philosophy of Science/Philosophy of Language; Ethics/Ethics/Political Philosophy.
The master's courses are conducted in two languages and include intensive seminars. Students are assessed on the basis of written examinations and research papers.
It is possible to complete the Master's programme in Philosophy without thesis. The non-thesis Master's Programme in Philosophy is completed with 10 courses (4 compulsory and 6 elective) and a Graduation Project.
