Course Objectives:
Turkish Literature meets Western Literature after the declaration of Tanzimat; and certain works were translated in Turkish. The western style of short stories, novels and poetry get written down. Literary movements emerged in the West were started to be followed. The main aim was to write such works corresponded to the Western literature. In this course, the relationship between Post-Tanzimat Turkish Literature and Western Literature has been examined in detail.
Course Content:
Tanzimat has been extremely important for Turkish society in every aspect. In the period of Tanzimat, Western literature has become an explanatory model for Turkish writers. Eventually, Turkish Literature gained the main characteristics of Western Literature. The western style of novels, novellas and poetry get written down; various texts from Western Literature were translated in Turkish. In this course, the relationship between Western Literature and Turkish Literature after 19th century is analyzed. |
