Course Objectives: 

The main aim of the course is to to enable students to approach play-analysis in details by adapting the reader’s response literary criticism theories on plays, such as Reception Theory, Feminist Literary Theory and Deconstruction. The second objective of the course is to help students to improve theircritical approach on plays and to enable them to analyse, evaluate and criticise view points or the ways of thinking presented in the play by the playwright through deconstruction of the text.

Course Content: 

The course focuses on theory of poststructuralism and deconstruction and the methods on reading and interpreting plays. It includes play-analysis in details by adapting the reader’s response literary criticism theories and methods on plays, such as Reception Theory, Feminist Literary Theory, Deconstruction, Postcolonial Criticism and Queer studies. The course also includes analysing the various samples of plays from Turkish and world theatre. Researches on the theory of performance, queer theory, the new viewpoints of interdisciplinary works on text interpretations of the literary texts and plays will be discussed in the seminar.
