The aim of this course is to determine literary properties of Old Turkish Language (6th-8th. centuries) which is the period of first common written language of Turkish and literary works in the second phase of Old Turkish Period; and also to analyze the importance of Middle Turkish Period into Turkish Language History through example texts.
In this course, phonetic and morphological characteristics of Old Turkic (Köktürkçe), which formed the first phase of the Old Turkish era, will be laid out in reference to Orhon Inscriptions. The literary features of the Ancient Uyghur Turkic will be analyzed by means of the texts from the Buddhist, Manichaeist, and Christian circles. The phases of the Middle Turkic period and its literary circles will be examined philologically on the basis of texts.
